Random pic Sunday- More fun now

I've probably mentioned that I have five children -
for those with young children they'll understand the
exhaustion involved when taking more than one
small child to a playground.
I found out yesterday that when they're older its much
more entertaining.   We stopped at a new playground
with my thirteen year old and a few of her friends.  I think
they enjoyed it more now then the did when they were
little - I know I did.

Interview with Author Michael J. Lee

Today I have Author Michael J. Lee stopping by on
his tour for My Frankenstein.

1. Who is Michael J Lee?
I’m a writer, consultant, blogger, gourmet, movie nut, history buff. Though if you really want to know who I am buy a copy on Amazon (grins) Seriously though I believe to write a good story is to tell people who you really are. You put a piece of yourself into your work. The pieces of that I put in into My Frankenstein were obviously my love of classic horror tales and movies but also my generosity. That’s what turned it from a horror story into a paranormal romance as you’ll see in the next answer.
2. Where did you get your inspiration from for My Frankenstein?
Initially it began as just another Frankenstein variant, something that Hammer might have produced back in the day. It started as a screenplay. But before I even wrote the first words it changed considerably. It changed because in order for that idea to really come to life I had to be more generous with my characters. I had to give them more emotional depth and they had to have very strong relationships with each other. That’s when it really came alive. And those relationships just took the story naturally into the realm of Paranormal Romance. It’s a little ironic because in the story Viktor bestows life on his creation but he isn’t very generous with it.
3. Do you ever have to struggle with your characters at any point to get them where you want them to go?
If I’m really struggling with my characters it’s usually because they want to go someplace even more amazing than what I had originally intended. That’s an excellent place to be in the creative sense. Your characters are so developed they have wills of their own. When that happens the best thing to do is let them take the reigns!
4. Do you ever have problems with writers block?  If so how do you get through it?
I suffer writer’s block in two ways, during the concept phase and during the execution. If I’m blocking during the concept phase it’s usually because the concept isn’t working. It may sound cool but I haven’t really gotten into its beating heart. If I’ve really got the concept, the story should just be flowing out of me. It should be taking me down corridors I didn’t even consider. Then it comes time to turn this into a real story, the execution phase. Now I rarely get stuck during the execution. That’s because I just write what is coming to me, whether that’s the beginning, the middle, or the ending. But it’s just getting started sometimes that’s the drag. Especially if this is in the beginning or the middle and the end isn’t clearly in sight. The only way to get over that is to just jump in and write. Just like the water is only cold until you jump in, the blank page only deters you until you start writing.
5. While working on a story, do you directly onto the computer or are there notebooks and plot ideas jotted down in various places?
A little bit from column A ,a little from column B. When I’m in the concept stage I write down stuff in notebooks. Usually it’s just a few notes and character names. When I start on the manuscript I move to the computer. I write out everything I can think of creating a longer and longer treatment or synopsis. Slowly I fill in the details and dialogue until a synopsis morphs into a rough draft. From there I keep adding until I reach the point where it’s time to start taking stuff away.
6.  Do you have any future releases we should watch for?
Yes. My next book is From Russia With Blood!
7.  What do you do when you’re not writing/editing or thinking about writing/editing?
Sleep. Eat. Stuff that would be crude to mention. Seriously my hobbies are cooking, history, movies, plus I like a good bar with a nice selection of alcoholic beverages.

Thanks for stopping by today, Michael!
Here's more about My Frankenstein and where you can find Michael.

In a small village in early 19th Century young Eva is enthralled by the new young baron, Viktor Frankenstein.  Viktor promises to transform the traditional little town into a beacon of science and gives the book loving Eva access to his fantastic library. Eva becomes his student and assists him in a secret experiment, though she is kept in the dark about its ultimate aim. Soon after that Viktor introduces Eva to his “cousin” Adam. Adam is horribly disfigured with stitches running across his face. Viktor claims he is mute and simpleminded, but Eva takes pity on him and sets out to teach him to speak.…
What follows is a combination of tragic romance and classic horror as Eva is pulled between Viktor, who grows jealous and takes murderous steps to ensure his secret, and Adam, who possess tremendous strength and rage yet deep inside is innocent and vulnerable.
In his debut fantasy novel, Michael J. Lee retells the classic story by Mary Shelley as a dark romance with steampunk overtones.

Interview with Author Jae Lynne Davies

Today I have the pleasure of having Jae Lynne Davies here
with her first release Mythic.
  1. Who is Jae Lynne Davies?

Jae Lynne Davies is a thirty-two year old wife to a wonderful and supportive husband, a mother to two young children, and author of Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy. During the day, I work in the ever-changing mortgage industry. At night, I bring a different world to life.
  1. I understand Mythic is your first release, how are you feeling now that it’s finally through the editing/publishing process and available to everyone?

Yes, Mythic is my first release. But once the process is complete, the work just begins. No one will know your story exists if you’re not willing to promote your material.
While I feel a great deal of accomplishment now that the novel is published, I constantly find myself hoping the world will enjoy the story I have to share.
  1. Did your characters give you any problems while you were writing?

Absolutely. In the beginning, my hero wouldn’t cooperate. Once I timed him out for a week, he learned to behave
  1. While working on a story, do you type directly onto the computer or are there notebooks and plot ideas jotted down in various places?

For my first novel, I didn’t begin with an outline. I had notes jotted down EVERYWHERE. If an idea came to me while at my day job, I’d email myself the information. Then, I wrote several things in a notebook. By the end of the novel, I was completely organized. Outlines are now crucial when it comes to my own writing.
  1. Where did your inspiration for Mythic come from?

I love vampires and knew if I was going to write anything, it was going to be about vampires in one way or another. I remember driving with my husband and creating the idea an elaborate world during the ride. Luckily, I had a notebook nearby.
  1. Do you have any other releases coming out soon?

Yes. I have a short story called, “The Contract” releasing on May 15th. The story is an Urban Fantasy featuring the Roman goddess, Diana and will be published in volume five of Tease Publishing’s ongoing anthology, “Love’s Immortal Pantheon”.
I’m also currently working on the sequel to Mythic, currently titled, “Blood Moon”. The story features Dante—a secondary character from Mythic, while remaining focused on Gianna Marino, the series heroine.
  1. What do you do when you’re not writing/editing or thinking about writing/editing?

If I’m not running around after my kids, or writing, I might be cooking a new recipe. I also love photography and I’m taking pictures whenever the mood strikes.

I can't wait to read more of your work!  Thanks for being here today.
Here's more about Mythic and where you can find Jae

Gianna Marino is a human/vampire hybrid who is fueled by her thirst for vengeance for the murder of her family, and has little tolerance for distractions. While at a constant war with the two halves of herself, in a world in which she doesn’t belong, and tormented by a past that she hardly remembers, she vows to punish Mattias Vitale—the vampire responsible.
But during her infiltration of his coven, posing as a human with the desire to be turned, her game of seduction with Mattias creates a burning and mutual desire, when Nicholas Sutton—a dark and handsome stranger, intrudes on their play, threatening to expose her with an agenda of his own. One man is sexy and dangerous, the other is powerful and deadly. Both are vampires that want nothing more than to ravish her senseless, claiming her for themselves in a bond of body and blood, while she longs to kill one and bed—them both.
But when Gianna discovers a secret that blurs the lines between good and evil, forever changing the course of her existence, destiny will soon determine on which side she'll stand.

Interview with Author Ami Blackwelder

Today I have the pleasure of having author Ami Blackwelder
stop by on her tour for The Shifters of 2040

Shifters Tour Button.jpg

1. Who is Ami Blackwelder?
A girl who when she could learn to write, began writing the imaginative stories from he head. She aloud by Elementary teacher and pursued English at UCF, having won Best Fiction in 1997 and subsequently Semi Finals of the Laurel Hemingway short story contest of 1997. A girl in a woman’s body. Girl- because like kids, her dreams have never died.

2. What genre(s) do you prefer to write? Why?
SciFi Romance, Paranormal Romance, Historical Romance. Without romance I get bored in a story and the subject areas I enjoy most have to do with our past or future or the in-between.

3. Do you ever have problems with writers block?  If so how do you get through it?
Not usually. I recommend writing in the morning, with a cup of tea. If your blocked, go read a book, see a movie, take a walk. Allowing yourself to experience other things will get your wheels-of-the-brain turning.

4.   The Shifters of 2040 is the third in your Shifter Evolution Saga.  How did this series come to be?
Born, The Hunted of 2060, in Thailand while watching my siamese Lotus jump rom tree limb to tree limb, the story originally had been written as a single book. Upon finishing I knew a sequel had to be written. Before I began the sequel, the characters spoke to me, back character stories wanted to be heard, written. So, I decided to write the prequels first.
The series is written so that the six books are broken into three pairs. 1/2, 3/4, 5/6. Reading the series as coupled books works best, no matter the chronological order you read them in. Begin with either Invasion, Shifters, or Hunted and its sequel and you will be fine.

5.    Can you give us a quick list of where we can find more of Shifter Evolution Books.
Online at Amazon, BnN, Kindle, Nook, iPad. Online you can order the book from a variety of places from Borders to Books a Million...Brick n Mortar stores:  USF BnN(shelf), Mojo Books (shelf), Book Shack (shelf), Used Books of Zephyrhills (shelf), Book swap (shelf)..

6. From your own writing, do you have a favourite story or character? Why?
Your British huh? (LOL) Living in Thailand for six years I had many British friends and my American began to sound British too...(LOL). My Fav story...I love The Day the Flowers Died and The Shifter Evolution saga.

7.  What do you do when you’re not writing/editing or thinking about writing/editing?
Promoting, advertising, teaching middle/elementary, helping my brother online with his business, and freelance reporting

Here's a bit more about Shifters of 2040:

Shifters of 2040 Book Description (Book 3 of the series):

America 2040.

Three Species. Divided Lovers. The Race is on for Planet Earth.

Set in Alaska in 2040, Melissa Marn and Bruce Wilder must work under the iron fist of the SCM, while still trying to maintain humanity. Discovering a world of shifters and hybrids, the scientists must struggle with human prejudice and betrayal. With the original ancestors, dubbed shifters, still living on earth, humans are in the midst of a fifteen year old war. As the eldest hybrids, Unseen and Diamond, learn about humans the hard way, with the loss of loved ones and sacrifices, love on planet earth proves challenging.

With underlining themes of how prejudice breaks human connections and animal/wildlife conservation, this novel which has received rave reviews will leave the reader flipping through the pages.

Excerpt Thursday - a piece of Salvation

I have been told that aside from the towel scene in Salvation
this is a favorite part - of course I'm only
giving a sneak peak of it here.
:)

Salvation
Two Centuries on not existing is about to change...

He walked with a heavy foot, wishing his boot were real enough
to pound on the floor. He was on the other side of the room before
he looked back at her. “I have gone on alone and completely adrift
for so many years at a time...the loneliness consumed me, leaving
me wanting to howl as a wounded beast does.” He waved a hand
in frustration. “Now, after all I have suffered through, I find I am
able to be heard when I speak, to be seen by other eyes, and I have
to fight every breath with the way I burn for you.” He walked in
large strides closer to her. “I take notice of your every movement,
your every breath, and I cannot even touch you one time!”

Miranda stood there, her eyes huge and locked to his. “I’m...I...I
feel the same way, Jareth.” She motioned to the monitor. “I’m trying,
really I am.”

He hissed out a breath. “I did not imply otherwise.” He looked
down into her brown eyes and wished again he had the strength
to turn from them. He could tell untruths to himself for the reasons
he was here with her, but he could not tell them to her. “I am
sorry, little one. I am not of much assistance when I spend all my
moments with you looking and...” He sighed.

“And?” she whispered.

His eyes searched hers. “Longing, wanting, craving...” He
looked down her body before moving back to her eyes. “The
clothes you wear show me how you are shaped beneath, and yet I
am still disturbed to absolute distraction with the images inside
of my own head that your appealing shape gives to me.”

She tilted her head and looked up at him, her cheeks flushed
and eyes soft. “Would you like to see more?”

“Yes,” he hissed as his mind screamed no. How could he put
himself through the torment of seeing what he desired more than
life and yet not touch, not taste?

Interview with Author Mila Ramos

Today I have the pleasure of interviewing Mila Ramos
who is on tour right now for her book Echoes and Illusions.

1.      Who is Mila Ramos?
I’d like to describe myself as a collection of eclectic tastes, sense of humor and quirky little personalities. One of those eclectic personalities comes out as a writer. The other sides of Mila are a chemist, a belly dancer, wife, sister, owner of the Invisible Jet and possessor of the lasso of truth.  Quite a combination and whopper of a tag line to put into a title but I’ve always been interested in countless avenues of life.  Some people think you only live once so you might as well do it all. I say no matter if you live once or a few times, do the things you love and those things will make your world phenomenal.

 2.      What genre do you prefer to write? Why?
Science Fiction/ Paranormal Erotica are my area of fun.  The paranormal is just a much more interesting realm for me to explore. I think part of the reason for the unknown in the paranormal extends over to the work in chemistry I do. The unknown, the “you never know” aspect of the field and the paranormal genre is no different. From alien species, to time travel to superpowers, I absolutely adore the realm.

3.      Do you ever have to struggle with you characters to get them where you want them to go?
Oh yes, sometimes to the point where I want to hide them in a drawer and wait for them to behave.  It’s usually the characters that are the most difficult that I tend to love and adore writing. They are complicated to deal with and closer to real life than most people I know.

4.      Do you ever have problems with writers block?  If so how do you get through it?
I have come to the conclusion that writers block and I were lovers in a past life. It may sound odd but sometimes I have been known to go blank on a book for more than a few months. Having tried most of the tried and true methods, I’ve come to the conclusion that even characters need to go to Tahiti for some time. I have one book where the characters have permanently relocated to Jamaica since they like it there so much.  One of the methods that I have tried that has been real successful is writing quick “thought shots” about the characters. “Thought shots” are what I like to say is just getting into the characters mind frame about anything in particular. It can even be how they will react or think about as they are having coffee for instance. What is on their mind, what they are going through and this has helped tremendously.

5.      While working on a story, do you directly onto the computer or are there notebooks and plot ideas jotted down in various places?
Note books, post-it notes, little pieces of papers cut out. So many little things lying around my desk and house it’s ridiculous.  I am currently in negotiations with my husband to just get a laptop just for writing. Now of course he still thinks I’m nuts but I’m working on wearing him down.

6.      Echoes and Illusions is quite the collection.  Where did some of your ideas come from?
Each story had different inspirations. Reel-to-Real came about in a dream actually and from there the idea just evolved over time. Smoke and Mirrors came about through a what if situation I was discussing with a friend of mine about the infamous question "if you knew then what you know now'.  This book in particular is a favorite of mine solely based on that conversation.  The Watchers and The Seventh Legend were both inspired by a song, a very unlikely song in all truth. I was listening to "Calling All Angels" by Jane Siberry. Her voice was so haunting in the music and it made me truly think about burdens as well as angels.

7.      From your own writing, do you have a favourite story or character? Why?
My two favourite characters are Ailsa Sullivan and Duncan Walsh. They are a part of the story Prophecy of the Boar. I’ve been working on expanding their story with the second book Divination (finally!!!).   These two characters fascinate my mind on endless levels. Not so much how they are but the endless possibilities of what they can do and the interaction between them. They have this spark between them that even still now I can’t figure out. That is the best thing that can happen to a story.

8.      What do you do when you’re not writing/editing or thinking about writing/editing?
Probably fantasizing about writing or editing, or so it seems lately.  In all seriousness I’m usually just keeping busy doing one thing or another. I’m either playing scrabble to pass time, hanging out with friends, catching up on books and movies, spending time with my husband, working in the lab, working on my belly dancing or running from my cat who oddly enough loves to play chase with me. It’s never a dull moment in my household.

Mila Ramos "Echoes & Illusions"

Reel-to-Real

A curious invitation mystifies acclaimed movie critic Moira Castle.   In an industry where word of mouth is reality, Moira comes back home to the unexpected.  Memories surge as an old movie reel and theater owner Toren McCann hold answers that have lain quiet for far too long.

Some stories are based on legend, some on rumor. Some stories are real.  For a young woman her childhood book has something more than imagined.  The book contains the story of a real hero facing an unimaginable evil that’s been after since she was a child.

In a world where duty and honor are binding and crucial Selene, a Coven Enforcer, has to choose between the life she knows and the life she yearns.  On a dark and stormy night Selene learns that some rules are meant to be broken, even immortal ones.

Smoke & Mirrors
Dr. Ana Fiore has earned her reputation “Dr. Ice” by her solid work and rigid personality. Sent to a conference for determination of Chief of Staff, she is snowed in with rival and colleague Dr. Dakota Hastings. Face-to-face with Dakota, she learns she isn’t the only expert at illusion.

Random pic Sunday- How does this work?

I have discovered that in nature anything is possible - even
when I don't understand it.
I couldn't find a way around the water to get closer to this and
try to boggle it out, so hopefully the pics show it well enough.
I don't know how this tree has grown to be this size when it's
on a rock and not the soil.

Excerpt Thursday - First look at Dream Visions

I've been working on the final proof of the second book
in the Hidden Senses Trilogy - Dream Visions.
So here's the first look at it.

Dream Visions

Sitting on the tiny bed, hugging his knees as tightly as
he could against his chest, his eyes darted around the
room. It was so dark and so quiet here--he just wanted to
go home and see his mom. Someone would come; someone
always did in the movies...

A creaking noise made him gasp; he quickly looked
towards the door. Pushing himself back further into the
musty corner, he watched and listened.

When it creaked again, he grabbed the thin blanket
and dropped to lie down on the bed, squeezing his still
damp eyes closed tightly.

Felicity blinked a few times and then looked down.
She was standing at her kitchen counter, hands grasping
the edge so hard her knuckles were white. Sighing, she
pushed the straying blonde hairs away from her face; her
hand were vibrating.

Closing her eyes, she took a calming breath. “I wish
you would show me where, sweetheart.” Whispering it out
loud made her feel better, even knowing he would never hear her.

Rinsing her hands under the cool water, she patted
some against her sweaty brow. Drying them quickly, she
looked around for a moment, trying to recall what she had
been doing before the vision blocked out the rest of the
world.

The kettle began to whistle, startling her. Unplugging
it, she shook her head. It could have been worse, you might
have been cutting vegetables or something else that could
result in coming out of it injured.

If there was one thing she was thankful for it was that
when it happened her body froze--and that usually
prevented her too many serious injuries. Of course, it made
life more complicated when it came to things like being in
public or driving, both of which she tried to avoid.

Taking her cup of tea, she went over to the desk and
pulled a tattered notebook from the drawer. Wanting to
record every detail before she forgot any of it, she began
jotting it down. Taking her time, she wrote carefully,
making sure she described every little thing--even going as
far as the crunching sound the old rusty cot frame made as
the little boy moved.
